kaoticwordsIn some of the few posts I wrote lately I talked about a National Congress about Japan in which I'm going to participate. The tittle of my paper is "Individualism Behind Community and Stereotypes".
To sum it up, I talk about the occidental vision of Japan and how under all the great mass of people going to their jobs in crowded trains, the importance of being number one at school, university and in your job, and a deeply-rooted sense of community, real life shows a significant number of people who don't fit this sketch of life. I'll talk about hikikomori and I'll also talk about artistic demonstrations that shows the individualism that lies in the subtext (Norweggian Wood's characters, Minekura's characters and the main characs of Dolls).
Uff, I still find difficult to put some things in English...
The thing is that I'm very interested in your opinion on the matter. I'm not going to ask you how do you see Japanese culture 'cause I know most of you are very fond of it and know it deeply ♥ but I'd really like to know what do you think people in general think about Japanese life?
