Revising 2008
Jan. 2nd, 2009 01:11 amLJ 2008's review (shamelessly stolen from
tj_dragonblade):
Go to your archives/calendar, take the first post you made each month and write the first line of each in your post. This is your year in review.
January: Try to type properlly...
Ok, second time I try to post this--- HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
February: OMG! last time I posted I was asking for help with a rare ancient chinese book I couldn't find anywhere in a readable language and just a moment ago, all by chance, I found an english draft translation with plenty of notes [....].
March: So it seems I'm being able to combine work with a little bit of fun: at least these last days, after 'finishing' one more chapter for my essay, I let myself enjoy my birthday, spend a day with friends and go to a concert.
April: Opinions, please ♥
In some of the few posts I wrote lately I talked about a National Congress about Japan in which I'm going to participate. The tittle of my paper is "Individualism Behind Community and Stereotypes".
May: In the meantime...
Title: Hanging
Fandom: House MD
Summary: House, Wilson and a drunk discussion about a "what if". Alternative concept of selfishness.
June: I actually came back from la France one week ago.
July: I can't believe it's july already! It means I've been two weeks doing almost nothing. I guess I had almost forgotten how awesome is to have free time day and night XD
August: I bought a beautiful diary in Rome. It has leather covers and,on the front, one of the wings designed by Leonardo da Vinci. Lately I've been writing there all the things I didn't write here but to sum it up, I had a wonderful time in Italy -awfully hot, that's true, but wonderful all the same.
September: I can finally say that I'm officially a researcher!!
October: I can't understand why I'm unable to find time enough to do all the things I want AND be connected to the Internet every now and then...
November: CONGRATS AMERICA! :D
December: Yesterday I was cleaning my diary and I found a pamphlet from an ukiyo-e exhibition I saw in summer. The curious thing is that when in July I looked at this engraving, it made me think about those beautiful summer storms, those that come and leave behind fresh air and charming lights.

The Livejournal End-of-Year Review!
What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
I competed in a local Jujitsu's championship and won the third place. I spent six months writing a thesis. I took part in congress about Japan and gave a lecture. I adopted a pretty bonsai as my pet. I went to a Spring Party with belly dancers. I kissed a boy I didn't know at all while being completely sober. I jumped a bonfire on the Summer Solstice. I met a famous rock singer. I presented my first thesis in front of a board and in public. I broke my finger. I went to a Japanese wedding. I was a teacher at university some times. I lived a month with my first best friend (and I mean we knew each other since we were 4 years old). I wore a kimono. I learnt to drive. I bought a car. I almost got hit by another car.
Did you keep your new years' resolutions?
I can't remember them very well... I think I decided I was not going to let myself be overwhelmed by work and coworkers. I succeed sometimes.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
No
Did anyone close to you die?
Fortunately not.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Again thesis, researcher degree, driving licence. In a more deep sense, I decided to give another chance to love (I didn't do it very well, or even in time, but I tried).
What was your biggest failure?
I still get mad and hurt for things that shouldn't hurt anymore.
Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing important.
What was the best thing you bought?
A laptop. A big book about medicinal plants. My second-hand car.
What countries did you visit?
France, Italy and Portugal.
What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
An answer from those old friends who lack the time to write. I'd also like to meet my old German flatmate.
Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My closest friends', for listening to me time and again with the same stressed rambling about university and work. And my mother.
Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't think so XD
Where did most of your money go?
The bloody driving licence!!
What song will always remind you of 2008?
Te echo de menos by Kiko Veneno (official song of summer vacation this year).
What was your favourite TV program?
House M.D. :D
What was the best book you read?
The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery; The Amazing Travel of Pomponius Flatus (or whatever the English translation will be) by Eduardo Mendoza; and Oscar Wilde and a Death of No Importance by Gyles Brandreth.
What was your greatest musical discovery?
The Killers.
What kept you sane?
Fanfiction, novels and LJ XD
Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"Its a long hard fight / But I'll always live for tomorrow" -It's a hard life, Queen
Conclusion:
It's been a very long year and too short at the same time. I achieved many things but I still feel as if there's something important I couldn't find...
Who knows, now that I think about it, I did a lot of things this last year~
